Ankle pain is the most common injury for runners and timely care can reduce the chances of it getting serious. If care is not taken, then the little pain can cause much more harm. You can also take preventive measures to root them out at the cause. Catching the causes beforehand and making changes to your running routine can go a long way in preventing ankle injury.
What exactly causes Ankle pain
There are multiple causes of ankle pain. On each step, the weight of the body shifts to each alternating ankle. Any irregularities anywhere in the leg can directly affect the ankle.
- Ankle Strain or Sprain: There’s a high possibility of a torn or overstretched muscle, it can also affect ligaments. Usually occurring due to an accidental misstep or incorrect landing, it is the most easily recoverable one. Due rest and timely detection can get you back on track.
- Ankle Stress Fracture: When the ankle can no longer absorb the impact of repetitive landing stress fractures start to emerge. Small cracks in the joints can increase. These can be painful and the faster you figure it out, the less seriously it affects you.
- Ankle Tendonitis: Inflammation of tendons that forces it to swell and tear. There are many kinds of tendinitis like Tibialis anterior tendonitis, Achilles tendinitis, and Posterior tibial tendonitis.
